2009. Toyota's engine software ran on a chip whose stack had been sized from a paper estimate, and the audit that followed found call paths eating far past that budget. Recursion was banned by the coding standard and present in the code anyway. When the stack grew down into the variables underneath it, the throttle logic started reading numbers nobody had written. Say whether this task ever ran past its 4096 bytes.
