today's brief

December 6, 2018. An expired certificate buried in Ericsson software takes O2 off the air across Britain and leaves 32 million people without mobile data for most of a day. London bus stops went blank, because the live arrival boards ride on that network. SoftBank fell over the same way in Japan. The certificate had a date printed on it and nobody was watching the date.

A certificate is still valid when its expiry day is today or later.
